Volunteers needed for a morning of outside yardwork & furnace complex sweeping in preparation for opening of the 50th season of tours and special events.

Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Curtain Village.

Cleanup hours are 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon.

Volunteers Activities Include:

removing, installing, painting signage posts;

resetting broken fence posts;

resetting missing fence rails;

weeding and removing stone and wood debris from gardens;

sweeping outbuildings such as the charging house, casting house, and blast house;

cleaning the carriage house which serves as a working kitchen;

raking and removing fallen twigs and branches from around the buildings and walkways;

cutting and removing bushes and dead wood from the bank along the old canal.

At noon, volunteers are invited to have cake and ice cream in early celebration of the 209th birthday (April 22) of Pennsylvania Civil War Governor Andrew Gregg Curtin, the son of Eagle Iron Works founder, Roland Curtin.

Volunteers should wear appropriate clothing and bring work gloves and their favorite garden and yard tools.

Parking is available in the packed earth lot in front of the iron master’s mansion.
